CMS Pauses BOC Accreditation Activities in CA, TX, FL, NY

OWINGS MILLS, Maryland — The Board of Certification/Accreditation (BOC), a nationally recognized CMS-deemed accrediting body for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS), has confirmed it is temporarily suspending accreditation for all types of facilities in four states: Florida, Texas, California, and New York.

This includes Post-Mastectomy Facilities.

The suspension was initiated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), in light of recent misconduct by a former BOC site inspector and independent contractor. The individual exploited professional relationships and personally benefited from unethical standards. These actions prompted BOC and CMS to take corrective action.

Judi Knott, BOC’s President and CEO, emphasized that the organization remains fully compliant and continues to provide accreditation services in 46 states.

“BOC continues to operate in good standing as a CMS-deemed accrediting entity,” Knott stated. “The actions of one former contractor are not indicative of BOC’s values or operations. We are treating this situation with the seriousness it deserves and are working closely with CMS to ensure full regulatory compliance and reinforce the high standards expected of us.”

What Does That Mean For Current BOC-Accredited Facilities?

The suspension does not impact existing accredited facilities in those areas. The pause affects only new accreditation and accreditation renewal applications in Florida, Texas, California, and New York.

As reported in HomeCare News, Knott stated, “All currently accredited BOC clients in Florida, Texas, California, and New York retain their full accreditation and recognition.” “We are cooperating fully with CMS, which will evaluate the status of the pause annually. While the agreement outlines a three-year suspension, our objective is to restore full service in less time.”

In response to the situation, BOC has committed to strengthening its internal controls and oversight procedures, striving for thorough compliance and preventing future breaches.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
