Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Act is Signed Into Law

The Nancy Gardner Sewell Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) Screening Coverage Act/Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act was signed into law today, February 3, 2026. Passed in both chambers had strong bipartisan support.

Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) screening tests are an innovative tool that can modernize cancer screening by detecting more cancers at earlier, more treatable stages. The passage of the MCED Screening Coverage Act enables the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to determine coverage of MCED tests once they are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is good news for Medicare Beneficiaries as it smooths the way for the development of payment policies.

Caitlin Kubler, Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy at the Prevent Cancer Foundation, stated, “We are proud to have played a role in moving this legislation forward and are even prouder to have done it alongside partners who have never wavered in their commitment to ensuring better health outcomes for all.”

The Prevent Cancer Foundation® is the only U.S.-based nonprofit organization solely dedicated to cancer prevention and early detection.
